DRM has been used by many companies over the recent years and there have been some success and also some failures. The main reason why there has not been 100% success is that consumers want to be able to buy products and be able to use the prodct however they wish to use it. In Windows Vista a syste has been set in place to include a form of Rights Management that is not completely understood, however here is a brief explaination.
Firstly Widnows Vista running on a network will be able to make use of Rights Management by being able to connect to a Rights Management Service on a server system - Windows Server. The idea is that the Rights Management service will run on a web server - IIS with MS SQL and would serve a domain that Windows Vista will be connected to. All data can therefore be protected within that domain and controlled through Active Directory. Licenses are given to those who are trusted to access the protected content. This is different to what music firms are offering in terms of limiting what can be done with music files or video files.
